Hospitality

The community wishes to know about new arrivals or people planning to come to Rehovot so that we can welcome them. If you are considering moving to Rehovot and would like to visit us, please contact the hospitality committee.  They will be happy to arrange meals and lodging and put you in contact with people who can tell you about schools, housing and employment.

As we learn from Avraham Avenu, please open your homes to our guests and newest arrivals. This link will take you will take you to the current list of new families, their contact information, and selected pictures so you can recognize them and say hi in shul.

Bereavement

In case of a bereavement in the community (לא עלינו), a family member or friend should report the bereavement using this link; this will allow us to promptly inform the community of funeral arrangements. As further details are finalized, we will then deal with announcing shiva arrangements and organizing whatever other support the bereaved may require.

Misheberach Lecholim

Please send names (3 maximum) to gabbai@bermanshul.org (preferably by Thursday). Names must be resubmitted anew every week and will be read on the following Shabbat morning.

Hesed

The hesed committee arranges minyanim and meals during shiva, as well as meals after childbirth and help for new olim.

Tzedaka

The Berman’s Tzedaka Fund is dedicated to providing for the needy of Rehovot, particularly at Pesach and the High Holidays. During the course of the year we assist a number of families with a small regular donation, as well as responding to appeals for individual aid. Funding for the Tzedaka Committee comes exclusively from contributions donated specifically to the Berman's Tzedaka Fund. To make a tax exempt donation click here.

Outreach

In 2005, the shul began organizing pluralistic activities for the wider Rehovot community, to make the beauty of Jewish tradition available to a wider audience. As a result of these activities, in 2009 the Berman Community initiated an outreach program called Kehillat Psifas, with an innovative model in which secular Israelis play an active role working with Bermans members in designing the yearly program of limud, chagim and shabbatot. Psifas has become a model of community and Jewish pluralism, and currently numbers about 40 member families. The program runs a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/psefas.community/.
