• Halachot when the 10th of Av is Erev Shabbat. Tisha Be-Av this year (2023) fell on a Thursday, so that the 10th of Av is Erev Shabbat. In this case, haircuts, shaving and washing clothes are permissible Thursday night in honor of Shabbat (Mishna Berura 558:3). Bathing and showering in HOT water should preferably be put off until Friday morning. However, if bathing will be impractical or if the hot water supply will be inadequate on Friday, it is permissible to do so on Thursday evening. Music and swimming are not considered li-khevod Shabbat and, hence, remain prohibited until Friday after midday (Hatzot, 12:47 PM). [Laws of the Three Weeks, R. Shimon Eider]. • Jointly sponsored Yahrtzeit kiddush - Av. The Av JSK will be held on August 5th, Parashat Eikev. Shiurim and lectures:

• Special Shiur this Shabbat. Dr. Susan Weissman, Chair of Judaic Studies at Lander College for Women, Touro University, will give a shiur this Shabbat following kiddush at approx. 11:00 on the topic of The Ten Commandments, עשרת הדברות, in English. The shiur will be given in the memory of Nachman Yonah ben Reb Shimon and Yehuda Gershon ben Yosef.
• Also this Shabbat, between Mincha and Maariv (at approximately 19:20), Yossi Shain will be giving a Shiur in Hebrew on the topic: פרשת ציצית מפני מה קבעוה בקריאת שמע - עיון מחודש במקורות, in memory of his father הרב גרשון בן ברוך מרדכי ואסתר מיכלא ז"ל.
