• AMIT Chug Rehovot welcomes the community to a meeting on the burning issue: "Digital Addiction, its effects on our lives and how we can deal with it" Motzei Shabbat, January 12, 2019. The average user of smartphones and iPads  taps, swipes, and clicks 2,617 times a day. Screen overload is known to cause sleep loss, anxiety, depression, loss of self image,  short memory spans, and even cognitive loss (digital dementia). A preview will be shown of Dr. Delaney Roston's candid film, "Screenagers: Growing up in a Digital Age", followed by speaker: Joy Epstein, MSW, a clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over 30 years experience. She will review research and suggest ways to discuss the issue, and set limits. Place:  AMIT Yeshiva Amichai 2 Meginai Hagalil Rehovot (see flyer here). Time:  8:15 p.m.; lecture starts 8:30 p.m.  Admission NIS 30 / Students NIS 15. Men and Women welcome.

• ESRA Rehovot. ESRA Rehovot invites you to a talk on “Jews and the Detective Novel,” to be given by Carol Novis, noted author and journalist. Carol will speak on the Jewish theme in the detective and mystery novel, and will include a discussion of writers who employ Jewish life as background (such as in Kemelman’s Rabbi Small novels) and those who have written with a slight touch of anti-Semitism (such as Agatha Christie). She will read from her own humorous novel “Long in the Sleuth,” about a quirky team of seniors who seek out a killer in a Jewish retirement home. Carol has written and published short stories and has written a book for children. Also, she has worked as a journalist and editor for several publications.
