• The Rehovot-Area Hebrew Readers begin reading a new book, מוקס נוקס‎ (translation, Mox Nox) by Shimon Adaf on Monday March 11. This novel, which won the Sapir Prize in 2013, is a coming-of-age story set in a kibbutz. The reading group is dedicated to helping members improve their reading skills through reading and discussion of contemporary Hebrew literature in the original language. • AMIT NEW DATE: March 16, 2019, Motzei Shabbat Parshat Zachor, at the Amit Hillel girls' school (36 Rechov Lechi). AMIT Chug Rehovot welcomes the community to a meeting on the burning issue: "Digital Addiction, its effects on our lives and how we can deal with it." The average user of smartphones and iPads taps, swipes, and clicks 2,617 times a day. Screen overload is known to cause sleep loss, anxiety, depression, loss of self image, short memory spans, and even cognitive loss (digital dementia). A preview of the Dr. Delaney Roston candid film, "Screenagers: Growing up in a Digital Age." Speaker: Joy Epstein, MSW, is a clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over 30 years experience. She will review research and suggest ways to discuss the issue, and set limits. Time: 8:15 p.m.; lecture starts 8:30 PM.
• Bnei-Akiva Rehovot and its graduates run a completely voluntary Gemach which collects and distributes substantial weekly food packages to 50 needy families identified by the Rehovot Municipality Social Services. The costs are substantial and they need our help to continue this activity at the current level. For further information and donations see their site https://www.hiuch.co.il. Dedicated donations via the Berman's Tzeddaka Fund are possible if you require a receipt acceptable for Israeli Tax deductions. • עמותת "חיוך למשפחה" (או גמ"ח בני-עקיבא רחובות) מחלקת סלי מזון ל-50 משפחות נזקקות ברחבי העיר מדי שבוע (בתיאום עם מחלקת הרווחה בעיריית רחובות). העמותה הוקמה ומופעלת ע"י בוגרי וחניכי בני עקיבא ברחובות מאז 2011. כל התרומות 100% לצדקה, ללא מטרת רווח אישי – אין אף עובד במשכורת. חניכי הסניף, הבוגרים ומשפחות החניכים אוספים תרומות ומוצרי מזון, אורזים את סלי המזון ויוצאים לחלוקת המארזים בכל יום חמישי. בזכות פעילות זו חניכי הסניף זוכים ליטול חלק בפעילות חסד ומתן בסתר למען נזקקי עירם. העמותה זקוקה לסיוע כלכלי על מנת להמשיך בפעילותה המבורכת. ניתן לתרום באתר https://www.hiuch.co.il או ע"י תרומה יעודית דרך קרן הצדקה של בית הכנסת עם קבלה מוכרת להחזר מס.
