SHUL ACTIVITIES, EVENTS AND REMINDERS תזכורות, אירועים ופעילויות של בית הכנסת

  • No reserved seats in shul. Please remember that seating in both the men's and women's sections is on a first come first served basis. There are no reserved seats except for Yamim Noraim. It is unacceptable for any member to ask or hint to a guest (or fellow member) that they should vacate a seat in which they are sitting.
  • בבית הכנסת אין מקומות שמורים. נא זכרו שלמעט ימים נוראים אין מקומות שמורים, וגם בצד של הגברים וגם בצד של הנשים מקומות הישיבה הם על בסיס מקום פנוי. אין לבקש או לרמוז לאורח/ת או חבר/ה אחר/ת לפנות מקום בו הם כבר התיישבו.
  • **Eruv tavshilin reminder. In order to permit cooking on Friday (the last day of Yom Tov) for Shabbat - the rabbis required an eruv tavshilin to be made on Thursday Erev Yom Tov. One takes a baked item (generally challah or matzah) and a cooked food (e.g. a hard boiled egg, a piece of gefilte fish or a piece of chicken) to be eaten on Shabbat. One then holds the eruv tavshilin and recites the following text: ברוך אתה ה' א-לוהינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצותיו וצוונו על מצות ערוב. בהדין ערובא יהא שרא לנא לאפויי ולבשולי ולאטמוני ולאדלוקי שרגא ולתקנא ולמעבד כל צרכנא, מיומא טבא לשבתא English translation of the Aramaic: Through this eruv may we be permitted to bake, cook, insulate, kindle a flame, prepare and do anything necessary on the festival for the sake of the Sabbath
  • The second annual lecture in memory of Chaya Levmore Tannor z”l will take place on Sunday, May 5, at 20:00. The speaker is Dr. Yael Ziegler who will speak in English on “Ruth: From Alienation to Monarchy”. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture.
  • Torah readers [still] needed for many parshiot for 5779. To volunteer, please contact Shmulie Pineles for the main minyan, or Moshe Appel for the Hashkama minyan.

  • Emunah Rehovot. April 30th 2019 at 10 a.m. Emunah Rehovot Annual Holocaust Meeting with guest speaker Linda Geffon – “Roots and Routes in Poland”. At the home of June and Norman Cohen, Aharoni 2/6, Rehovot. There will be candles for people to light. Suggested minimum donation NIS 10 which will be given to the Holocaust Survivors’ Fund in memory of our beloved Lilly Stern z’l.

  • Job Opp. Coordinator at the Feher Jewish Music Center at Beit Hatfutsot. Applicants for this full time position must either hold or be studying towards a relevant academic degree. Preference will be given to graduates of musicology studies or of various music schools, have a working acquaintance with computer applications. Knowledge and experience with databases is an advantage, and candidates must be fluent speakers of English and Hebrew. Proven experience in archival and documentary work, especially in the field of music is an advantage. Excellent human relations are essential.
