Place the deceased on the floor and cover the deceased with a sheet.
If at all possible have a doctor put the cause of death in the death certificate.
Obtain a burial permit from the Ministry of Health. The local office is located at 80 Remez St., opposite Magen David Adom. Tel. 9485858

The Chevra Kadisha will take the deceased to the Kaplan hospital morgue if the death occurred at a time when the funeral cannot be held that day. This means that the Chevra Kadisha should be contacted as soon as possible for the removal of the deceased and for making funeral arrangements. Before burial can take place the Chevra Kadisha must be furnished with a valid burial certificate.
A member of the deceased's family must go to the Chevra Kadisha office 28 Binyamin street (opposite Rehov Nordau) to sign several forms before the funeral can take place.
The cost of the funeral is paid for by Betuach Leumi. The cost of additional services such as having the funeral from the Beit Kenesset or a chazan are not covered by Betuach Leumi. A fee schedule can be found in the Chevra Kadisha office. The fees for additional services are set by the Religious Ministry. Complaints in regard to services should re addressed to them. Under no circumstances is an employee of the Chevra Kadisha permitted to ask for any payment, other than for those services that are requested by the family of the deceased and which are not covered by Betuach Leumi.
